A Very Special Online Event
to benefit a family in need
Join Jason England, Michael Weber, Mac King, David Williamson, R. Paul Wilson, Eric Mead, Derek DelGaudio, and other special guests for an all-day fun & informative online event!
Saturday, September 28 from 1PM EST to 9PM EST
If you know Jason England, or have ever seen his Facebook page, then you know he’s fostered almost 70 dogs in the past six years, through Golden Retriever Rescue of Southern Nevada.
What you may not know is that Zach and Katie are an integral part of those rescue operations, as well. Last New Year’s Eve, Zach and Katie saw a dog running down the street just before midnight. Pulling their car over, the dog jumped in and they took him home. No collar, no microchip, and no one responded to notifications about a “found dog.”
So, he stayed with them…for 8 months. “Jack,” as he came to be called, was a sweetheart. All he wanted to do all day was lounge on the couch, sleep, and eat. Unfortunately for him, Jack was a Dogo Argentino, a breed commonly confused for a Pit Bull. Dogs that resemble Pit Bulls are extremely difficult to place in permanent homes. Although he went to countless adoption events and was advertised across multiple cities and states, Jack just couldn’t find a home.
Last week, Jack ingested a leaf from a highly toxic plant that is all too common in the Las Vegas valley, oleander. Oleander is a cardiac toxin, and Jack found himself at a veterinary emergency hospital in the middle of the night. Even after excellent treatment and care, his condition worsened, and he was transferred to a veterinary “critical care” facility. After another two days of not improving and no potential improvement in sight, Zach and Katie made the heartbreaking decision to allow Jack to pass peacefully. He died with them by his side, at 2:38 AM, Monday, September 9.
In all, Jack’s vet bills amounted to almost $15,000. Zach and Katie had done the responsible thing and had just over $3,000 in an emergency vet fund. But that still leaves almost $12,000 in outstanding bills. Nikki Sokulski (Stan Allen’s daughter-in-law) organized a GoFundMe campaign that has to date raised over $5,000. That’s incredible, and many of you have already contributed to it.
But as you can see, they still need about $7,000 to completely cover their costs. That’s where we, the magic community, come in. We are hosting an all-day event, featuring Eric Mead, R. Paul Wilson, Michael Weber, David Williamson, Mac King, Derek DelGaudio, Jason England, and many other special guests!
All of the proceeds from this event will go to cover Jack’s veterinary costs, and any overage will be donated to local Las Vegas animal rescue charities. Every penny will be accounted for, and we’ll make sure that these rescue organizations know that it was the magic community at large that made this happen.
The cost for this all-day very special event is $100.

FAQs
-
100% of the proceeds will be used to recover the payment of emergency veterinary bills generated during Jack’s hospitalization in two different hospitals.
-
The hospitals have been paid. The full amount was put on credit cards by Zach and Katie. The planning for this Jack of Hearts fundraiser and the GoFundMe campaign both began while Jack was still alive, and they are now an attempt to recoup those costs.
-
Every single penny raised by the GoFundMe campaign and this Jack of Hearts fundraiser event will be accounted for. We will maintain and publish transparency documents detailing the total costs, the total monies brought in, any expenses (e.g., PayPal fees, web-hosting fees). If there is any money left over, it will be donated to local Las Vegas animal rescues. The specific rescue that worked with Jack is called Animal Network, and they are first on our list. Other rescue organizations we’re considering include Street Dogs, Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA), and A Home for Spot. Of course, we will not know specifics until the Jack of Hearts event and GoFundMe campaign are complete.
-
The only fees we foresee now are GoFundMe fees, PayPal processing fees, and web-hosting fees (if we decide to make this an annual event and maintain a website).
There are NO hidden administrative fees.
-
No! Everyone involved has donated their time, items for the charity auction, and/or items for the session lecture notes.
-
No. Because events transpired so quickly, we didn't have time to create a 501(c)(3) charity. The approval process can take up to six months.
If this becomes an annual event, we will explore creating a 501(c)(3) charity.
-
The final financial report will be available on an easily accessible platform, such as Facebook or this website. You can also get them by emailing Jason England.
The more transparent we are with your money, the easier it is to get you to come back next year!
-
Yes, the recording will be available the following day for those who registered.
-
Sign up for this special all-day event. The immediate need is to offset these massive credit card bills and avoid as much interest charges as possible.
Spread the word! Tell all of your magic-loving friends about this event.
After that, you can contribute to the GoFundMe campaign, but it’s certainly not required to attend the Jack of Hearts session.
Consider donating directly to the organizations mentioned above or similar animal rescues in your local area.
Finally, get involved in animal rescue. Believe it or not, what most rescues need more than your money is your time and space. Open your home to a dog or cat in need and provide a temporary respite from the dangers of living on the street or the stress of a shelter environment. A warm corner of the couch or a cool spot on the tile is so much better. Give them that if you can.
